Why is this less precise than the Shoe Size Converter?
Foot length is an almost universal reference across footwear brands. Chest/bust-to-letter-size mapping genuinely differs by brand and cut (slim fit vs. regular fit alone shifts it by a size); there's no single industry-wide standard the way there is for shoes. Treat this as a starting point, not a final answer, and always check the specific brand's own chart.
Should my product listing show the letter size or the measurement?
Both, if possible. A buyer who's used to a different brand's "L" can be sized wrong by letter alone. Showing the actual chest/bust range in inches or cm alongside the letter size measurably reduces size-related returns.
